Laboratory Testing and Evaluation of Joint Bar Clamps

Since 2024, MxV Rail has been evaluating joint bar clamps regarding their effectiveness in holding joint bars on 136 lb/yd. rails without the need for bolts to keep the joints in place. Two different vendors supplied the joint bar clamps traditionally used in rail networks in Europe but not in the North American freight rail network per current regulations.1 Rolling load testing along with longitudinal resistance tests were conducted at MxV Rail, and the results from those tests are provided in this Technology Digest.
