Railway Age recognizes railroaders under age 40 as the “best of the best” in the February 2023 issue

February 2, 2023, Pueblo, CO – MxV Rail is proud to announce that Ananyo Banerjee, PhD, Principal Investigator and Manager of the company’s NDE-Metallurgy team is recognized by Railway Age in this year’s 25 under 40 awards program.

According to press material, Railway Age selected the honorees from freight and passenger railroads; government entities; and the supplier, contractor and consultant communities. This is the eighth annual awards program. Judges said that in getting to know the honorees of 2023 they detected a shift away from technical expertise and data provision, towards the ability to ask the right questions of the data.

Banerjee was honored by the award and eager to share the spotlight with the rest of his MxV Rail team specializing in metallurgical research and mechanical testing of rail.

“It’s wonderful to hear this news as MxV Rail’s team is settling into our brand new, state of the art laboratory facilities,” said Banerjee. “We are tackling the latest challenges related to rolling load and track components. Our solutions will support long-term safety and service in both freight and passenger rail, as well as other industries. It’s a fascinating area of research, and we have an energetic team here in the lab.”

Banerjee, known by his colleagues as “AB” since he joined MxV Rail in 2015, admits he is passionate about metallurgy and the many varied materials that are used in transportation. While under age 40, Banerjee has already made his mark on the industry by managing multi-million dollar research projects and publishing more than 50 papers in journal articles and magazines. While rail is his primary area of research, Banerjee’s materials expertise spans from polymers and ceramics to steel and alloys.

Banerjee’s research interests started to form while earning a BE in metallurgical and materials engineering at Jadavpur University, and then in the mechanical engineering master’s program and a PhD in materials science and engineering with Michigan Technological University.

“I’m elated for AB to be recognized by Railway Age. He has worked diligently to become one of our subject matter experts in rail, working closely with our stakeholders in this area,” said supervisor and nominator Dingqing Li, PhD., PE and Executive Director of Engineering Infrastructure. “Two years ago, AB was selected to manage our NDE/metallurgy program and has been passionately leading his team in cutting-edge research and testing for the rail industry.”
