The Challenge: Advancing Rail Technology in an Increasingly Complex World
The rail industry is undergoing rapid transformation. From digitalization and data-driven maintenance to sustainability initiatives and next-generation technologies, railroads worldwide face growing pressure to innovate while maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance.
Addressing these challenges requires more than enterprise research efforts. It demands collaboration across borders, organizations, and disciplines. In 2025, rail industry leaders recognized a unique opportunity to strengthen global knowledge, bridge technical expertise, and advance the solutions benefiting the entire rail community.
The opportunity became a reality as “Rail Research Week” hosted by MxV Rail in Colorado Springs, Colorado. For the first time in history, the International Heavy Haul Association Conference (IHHA) and World Congress on Railway Research (WCRR) teamed up for an unforgettable week of learning, collaboration, and innovation.
The Solution: Building a Global Collaboration Framework
Against this backdrop, MxV Rail and global partners worked together to discuss, design and strengthen international cooperation and advance mission-critical rail research. At the event, leaders established a framework for deeper collaboration across heavy-haul and high-speed rail research, testing, and technology development.
